Recap: Christmas Countdown at the Library!

From the 1st of December to the end of semester we enjoyed many festivities at the Library! In the School Resources Centre we hid pictures of our favourite children’s books under the presents on our Christmas tree, and displayed some of our wonderfully festive and wintery CF and YF books…

Our Main Event of the festive season was our Christmas Countdown Library Top Tips! We printed our Top 15 Library Tips onto some dummy books, and wrapped them up (with offcuts from old SRC displays to save paper of course!).

We asked you to help us count down to the end of semester and unwrap a new Library Top Tip every day from 1st-15th December! And you did!

On the 1st December we told you about our Advent Wall Calendars in the School Resources Centre…

Did you know we also have other Nativity Active Learning in the RE and Social Sciences Base, like this wooden Nativity play set?

On the 2nd December we shared our Christmas Stories and Poems booklist

On the 3rd December we asked you to follow us on social media! We are @uniwinlibrary on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Pinterest! Give us a like or subscribe and keep updated with us…

On the 4th December we highlighted our varied collection of Christmas craft activities books! Check them out, you’ll find them in the Arts Base at shelfmark 745…

On the 5th December we reminded you that there are issue kiosks on every floor! We have 3 kiosks upstairs next to the returns machine, one in the School Resources Centre on the middle floor, and one near the ground floor entrance…

On the 6th December we asked you to ask us for help! Don’t be shy, our friendly team of Library staff are always on hand to help you with any queries or questions you may have. Pop over to the Library Desk, or send us an e-mail at libenquiries@winchester.ac.uk

On the 7th December we advertised our holiday posters which you’ll find in the School Resources Centre in the RE and Social Sciences base! Just look for the poster draws at the bottom of the shelves…

On the 8th December we reminded you that you have a Subject Librarian! You can contact them for a 1:1 session or if you need any help with our resources. Visit our Who to Contact page to find out who your Subject Librarian is and how to get in touch with them…

On the 9th December we suggested you check the maps if you need help finding what area to look in! Make sure you know the shelfmark of the book you’re looking for (use the Library Catalogue) and then check the maps – you’ll find these all around the Library, or we have paper copies at the desk…

On the 10th December we reminded you that you need your student card to borrow items from the Library. The keyboard option on self-issue kiosks is no longer available as too many students have found that their borrower number had been misused. This is to keep your library account safe and make sure that books can’t be issued to wrong person by mistake…

On the 11th December we reminded you about the Library Catalogue! Use it to search for the resources you need, and then check the maps to see which floor and which area of the Library to go to…

On the 12th December we advertised our Inter Library Loans service! It’s FREE for students! Need a book which isn’t in the library? E-mail interlibraryloans@winchester.ac.uk and we may be able to borrow the book from another library for you. Read our blog post: Inter Library Loans: Your Questions Answered for more information…

On the 13th December we reminded you that you can renew your books online! Just log into the Library Catalogue, go to ‘My Account’ and click the yellow ‘Renew’ button next to the books you want to renew.

Just two #LibraryTopTips #ChristmasCountdown presents left…!

On the 14th December we let you know our opening times over Christmas. (We’re back to 24/7 opening now!)…

On the 15th December our final top tip was to have a lovely and relaxing vacation!

MERRY CHRISTMAS from all of us
and a Happy New Year!
