What We Did Over Summer

It’s been a very busy summer here at the library as we prepared for the start of the new academic year! Here’s just a few of the things we got up to:

Stock Check

If you follow us on Social Media, you may have seen that we’ve been doing a Library wide stock check this summer! For those that don’t know, a Stock Check is where we go through all three floors of the library and check that our books and resources are all present and accounted for. It helps us keep up to date on missing and broken books, as well as ensure our stock is ready and waiting for our new and returning students.

Fixing Books

 Book Repairs

Summer gives us a fantastic opportunity to find and fix any broken books and those that just need a little extra tlc before the new term begins.

Reading Lists

We have been preparing for the new year by creating and reviewing reading lists which will make sure that we have all the resources you need for your courses.

Receipting and Processing Books

Of course we’ve also been ordering, processing, and cataloguing all our new books that have been coming in over the summer, to be out on the shelves ready for term! We’ve been receiving excited tweets and emails from students who have been finding these new resources these past few weeks, which is just the sort of motivation we need to get through the thousands and thousands of new resources coming in.

Study Rooms

 Study Room

For fans of our Study Rooms, you may notice they look a little different this term! The University’s Estates Team have plopped a new coat of paint on them and given us new whiteboards, to help with any group projects, presentation of revision you all have. Enjoy!

Library Visits, Conferences and Team Building!

The library team was very lucky to visit not just one but two other libraries in Winchester over the summer to see what goes on behind the scenes! The first was a trip to the Discovery Centre where we saw the heart of the library and the Hampshire Railway themed special collection. The second was a peak into the life of the Winchester School of Art library where we had the chance to see their unique and fascinating collection which included the famous Knitting Reference Library!

There were also several conferences over the summer including the SUL networking event which was aimed at library assistants and focused on team building tasks such as building Lego!

We hope you all had a lovely summer and are raring to go for this new academic year!
